I went to watch a local movie this evening with one of my close buddy, Robin. The title of that movie is "One More Chance". It's been a cool evening with showers in town, but we did enjoy ourselves.
In my opinion, it's a good show although there are many local critics that criticize this movie, which Jack Neo has produced himself. For your information, this movie is about the difficulties ex-convicts face after their release from jail. Especially when they look for jobs, or even in the areas of relationships, people often belittle them and also, unwilling to accept their past together with their repentance.
Here is one of the movie reviews I extracted from a Movie-Talk forum. Obviously this guy is a strong critic for the show.
REVIEW EXAMPLE
I got see all jack neo films, I must say this is the worst of the lot, no head no tail, the ending super dramatic, and unrealistic.
the whole show got a few typical jack neo's joke, like making fun of gov decision to open IR, then is lee guo huang's role who jail for 7 years, wife going to marry another man soon, more yandao & more rich, comepare to lee, got nothing.
then at the ending, that man & lee' wife at a church going to marry soon, then out of sudden that man pass his suit to lee, and tell him the one who is marry apple is actually lee, then that man take out a yellow ribbon, then the rest of the guest also, at that pt I was like KN n what kind of story is this? my grandmother can write a better ending.
which man is so steady let his women marry another, and yet still hold a yellow ribbon to give him support. carry gov's LP and support gov also not like that mah Jack neo.
and talk about "hui ge", his acting surprising quite good this time, scene where his mother is dying (told him previously the "thing" she crunch in her hand is the most important thing in her life), and show him the word "hui" on her palm, and hui start to cry, his acting improve liao, but then dun know why I see liao still can't help laugh out loudly instead of touched.
disappointed this time round, for those who want to watch it, i say spent that few dollars on a meal is better choice.
I must say that this show is quite unrealistic in certain manner, which the casts have portrayed. Perhaps, this is to make the movie a little bit light-hearted as it is concentrated on just one simple and serious plot. And the moral of the whole movie is that we must be forgiving and willing to understand people, putting yourself into their shoes as well. Especially for someone who has made a terrible mistake in life.
I don't understand why so many local critics look at those little details of the movie.. for instance, finding faults in the way the casts were acting (in this case, they were refered to as super dramatic or should we say, can't act at all). Let me comment that the local casts have put in a great amount of effort to make a great movie such as this. Even though, in the movie there are 'traditional' scenes that tries to promote certain government policies and the Yellow Ribbon stuff. But I still insist that the overall moral of the movie is very good and meaningful.
It speaks clearly in my heart: -
Building more prisons will only increase the number of prisoners each year. It is not a good solution AT ALL!
So, let us have a forgiving heart from now on, knowing that everybody deserves a second chance regardless of how big or small their past mistakes were. We still ought to accept them as they are in the present.
Life is about love and acceptance, which money can't even buy.
I truly hope that more local movie goers would not just enjoy the shows they watch, but to look out on the moral of the story instead. Otherwise, it's better not to watch movies because it'll be a waste of time and money, especially when one pays without expecting a return of inspirational growth or experiencing some lessons learned.
